The complementarity and gender equity epitomised by the presence of the Mareikura - and Whatukura, * within the Maori Cosmogonic Myth, was examined in a thesis, presented for the degree of Bachelor of Applied Arts from Northland Polytechnic / Tai Tokerau Wananga, inspiring a series of sculptural vessels as a visual presentation.
The effects of flame, smoke and ash have been utilised previously, and now oxides have been introduced.
Work is handbuilt and large works are often wood fired in the Ahi-ka-roa community kiln, at Matatina Marae in the Waipoua forest.
